Internet Cool Kids

As Dave Grohl lovers, when I saw this tweeted yesterday I asked Lolly if she had seen this, she said yeah, I made it and posted it on my tumblr....I may not be one of the cool kids but I've raised one.

Crazy Talk

"You're not getting a tattoo until your taste in high school boys improves"

Rare

Lolly: " I am rare like a unicorn. I am in highschool and I haven't had sex, I don't drink, and I don't do drugs"

I have a whole new appreciation for unicorns.

Thinning of the Herd

Yestersday we had to say goodbye to Lolly's cat Cupcake. She had stopped eating. Seriously, I am not meant for pet ownership. Not to be morbid but we have another cat and two dogs. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph I can't stomach the idea having to be in that position three more times...I am off to have a good cry.

Breaking Up is Hard to Do.

Lolly broke up with her first boyfriend. I took it hard, not as hard as the boy. Maybe residuals from the past, but it made me feel super sad.

Time to get our Grohl on

I am taking Lolly and a friend to see the Foo Fighters tonight.

I realized some changes need to be made when it dawned on me that I actually had to shop for something appropriate to wear. How uncool would it be to roll up there in my usual button down and argyle sweater and khaki capris? Yeah, I need to make a few changes...

A First...

...Boyfriend for Lolly. While we knew it would happen sooner or later, Mister's not that keen on it. I am not too worried. She's got a good head on her shoulders, already concerned about keeping a balance between boy and life.

The boy told her he couldn't think of one thing he would change about her, she's perfect in everyway.

I like him for now. But for his own good, I think it's important he knows her step dad keeps shot guns under the bed, she has an uncle whose an ultimate fighter, and an aunt who beat up boys in high school so he better be good to her.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Lolly read the Kurt Cobain Journals while she was away this summer. Now I am overdosing on Nirvana with a side of Foo Fighters.

One can only take so much grunge...

1410

1410 - That's the average SAT score for incoming freshmen at the University of Notre Dame. A fact we discovered during a behind the scenes tour of the university. That's stressful. Good thing we bought this book the day before at the campus bookstore.

We'll need the book, it's secrets, a lot of prayers, and a backup plan...

I can't drive 55

or 65, or 45, or anything within 5 miles of the posted speed limit.

Nothing like a newly permitted driver to make you realize how little you really remember about the rules of the road.

Maybe we should get one of these magnets now that Lolly's driving.

Warrior Dash

Next Saturday at 8:00am Lolly and I will be running the Warrior Dash in North Georgia with a dear friend and her daughter.

There's been no prep and I don't like to get dirty but I do believe I am mentally tough. I hope I am not proven wrong...

Quinze

Lolly turns 15 today. Which she told me means that she's half way to 30 and 5 years from 20.

I now need a slice of cake, or a drink...

My New Slogan

That's how feel when I look out the window and see Lolly and a friend flirting with two neighborhood boys.

14 Again

If I was 14 again I'd be a lot nicer to my parents. Because even though you love them no matter what, 14 year old moody girls suck.

The Wonderful World of Lolly

I sent Lolly off to Disney World this morning with a group from church. She knew no one on the trip ahead of time except the youth leader. I love her sense of adventure. While I have that sense of adventure now, I certainly didn't have it at her age.

6 vans total. I am sure Matt, the driver, appreciates the Disney Princesses title across his van filled with 5 girls.

I've received two text since this morning. Both starting out with " I am having so much fun..." So I guess alls well at their end. I however after 14 years I still get that "First Day of Daycare Panic" feeling whenever I send her off to somewhere I am not familiar with...To cope I am having a beer or two this evening and staying away from watching the  ID: Investigation Discovery channel this weekend.

Sing, Sing a Song

This morning I put Lolly on plane bound for here

Carnegie Hall. She and a few other members of her middle school chorus are performing there Saturday night.

Watching her board that plane in both nervousness and excitement was almost more than I could take. It was in that moment that I realized just how closely my emotions will always be tied to her. Ever since Lolly was born I've seemed to have a keen sense that she's really only mine for a short time and before I know it she'd be grown and on her own. Raising kids is a gradual letting go. Am I depressing you yet?

I am really excited for Lolly. I know she's having a blast. And I have peace that her Daddy is headed to New York to see the performance so she'll have family in the big apple in case of emergency.

Still I found today very hard. Once she got on the plane that is, before that I was the strong reassuring mom telling her not to worry.  Today I start preparing for when she goes off to college. I've got 4 yrs to get comfortable and be strong about the inevitable. Of course once I have her safely tucked away on some college campus I can't promise I won't need to be sedated.

Why Punishment is a Friend of Mine

Me: Watching the Dr. Phil show "Lolly come here"

Lolly: running up the stairs "what?"

Me: "Does that guy look familiar?"

Lolly: "Hey that's my softball coach. Are Alexis and Alaina going to be on the show?"

The topic of the show Troubled Teens: An Intervention

They smoke, drink, speed, pop pills, disappear all night and disrespect their parents all day. They are teens gone wild, and Dr. Phil has a huge wake-up call for them and their parents! Kimberly and David say their 14-year-old daughter, Alaina, has had so many tickets from the police, that she’s under house arrest. And their 16-year-old daughter, Alexis, is very manipulative and throws fits when she doesn’t get her way. How did their girls get so dangerously out of control? And will Kimberly and David have the strength to follow through with Dr. Phil’s advice? Parents, if you’re in a power struggle with your teen, don’t miss this show!

Holy smoke! Thankfully the worst that's come our way is a little back talk. This kind of stuff scares the crap out of me!

Weekend Wrap Up

Lolly's party went off without a hitch. It was so nice to wake up and not have a post sleepover house to pick up. The girls all seemed to have a great time painting. I am almost embrassed to report that the instructor came up to me and asked if I was type A and that she could tell by the look on face when I was painting.
In order to get the party go-ers to and from I rented an SUV. The fine people of Enterprise Rent A Car hooked me up with an upgrade and I got to drive one of these, Buick Enclave
Totally decked out. There was so much to this SUV that I didn't have a chance to use half the amenities. If I change my car buying philosophy and/or have a ton of money to spare, I'd so want one for my every own. I may or may not have been stopped and given a warning for speeding with a car full of 14yr olds.
